The 3rd gen Tundra's twin-turbo V6 has now been the subject of three separate engine recalls, each one expanding the last. That has left a lot of owners unsure whether their truck is covered, which campaign applies, and whether they will get a new engine or just an inspection. This page lays out exactly what NHTSA's recall records say, campaign by campaign, so you can match your truck to the right one.
Where this comes from. Everything below is from NHTSA's recall database (campaigns 24V381, 25V767 and 26V320), retrieved October 20, 2026. Unit counts are NHTSA's "potential number of units affected" and cover every model in each campaign.
The Three Campaigns at a Glance
| NHTSA CAMPAIGN | FILED | VEHICLES | UNITS | WHAT DEALERS DO | TOYOTA / LEXUS CODE |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 24V381 | May 30, 2024 | 2022–2023 Tundra; 2022–2023 Lexus LX600 | 102,092 | Replace the engine assembly | 24TB07 / 24TA07; Lexus 24LB04 / 24LA04 |
| 25V767 | Nov 6, 2025 | 2022–2024 Tundra; 2022–2024 Lexus LX; 2024 Lexus GX | 126,691 | Inspect the #1 main bearing using inspection software and drive data; replace the engine if necessary | 25TB14 / 25TA14; Lexus 25LB07 / 25LA07 |
| 26V320 | May 20, 2026 | 2024 Tundra | 43,566 | Same inspection, engine replaced if necessary | 25TB14 / 25TA14 |
NHTSA's records describe 25V767 as an expansion of 24V381, and 26V320 as an expansion of both.
What the Defect Is
NHTSA's summary for all three campaigns is the same: debris from the manufacturing process may contaminate the engine and cause the main bearings to fail, which can result in an engine stall and loss of drive power. NHTSA lists the consequence as an increased risk of a crash.
In practice, owners on Tundra and Land Cruiser forums describe the failure as a knock that develops into rough running or a no-start. If your truck develops a new knock, rough idle or oil pressure warning, stop driving it and contact a dealer, whether or not you have received a letter.
Which Trucks Are Covered
- 2022–2023 Tundra (gas): in 24V381 and 25V767. Which one applies depends on the VIN.
- 2024 Tundra (gas): in 25V767 and 26V320.
- Tundra Hybrid (i-FORCE MAX): NHTSA's model lists for these three campaigns name the Tundra, LX and GX, not the Tundra Hybrid.
- Lexus LX600 / LX (2022–2024) and 2024 Lexus GX550: included in the Lexus side of the campaigns.
Not every truck of those years is included: the campaigns cover specific build ranges. The only reliable answer for your truck is a VIN check.
Where the Remedy Stands (October 2026)
| CAMPAIGN | OWNER LETTERS |
|---|---|
| 24V381 | Mailed December 17, 2024 to February 19, 2025 |
| 25V767 | Mailed August 28, 2026 |
| 26V320 | Interim letters mailed July 23, 2026; further letters once the final remedy is available |
How to Check Your Truck
- Find your VIN on the lower driver's side of the windshield or the driver's door jamb label.
- Enter it at nhtsa.gov/recalls, or Toyota's own recall lookup on the Toyota owners site. Both show open recalls by VIN.
- Call Toyota at 1-800-331-4331 if the lookup and your letter disagree.
- Keep records of oil changes. They are not a condition of the recall, but they matter for any related engine claim.
Should You Change Your Oil More Often?
The recall remedy does not change the maintenance schedule. Toyota's 2024 Tundra maintenance guide calls for oil every 10,000 miles on 0W-20, or every 5,000 miles if most of your driving is under special operating conditions such as towing or dusty roads. Some owners have moved to shorter intervals and oil analysis while they wait for their inspection; that is a personal choice, not a Toyota requirement. The full schedule is in our Tundra maintenance guide, and oil specs are in the Tundra fluids guide.
Other 3rd Gen Tundra Recalls
The engine is not the only open item on 2022+ Tundras. These NHTSA campaigns cover the gas and hybrid trucks (accessory and label-only recalls left out):

Frequently Asked Questions
Which Tundras are in the engine recall?
Specific 2022–2024 gas Tundras with the 3.4L twin-turbo V35A engine, across NHTSA campaigns 24V381, 25V767 and 26V320. The 2022–2024 Lexus LX and 2024 Lexus GX550 are also covered. Check your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls.
Will Toyota replace my Tundra's engine?
Under 24V381, dealers replace the engine. Under the later expansions 25V767 and 26V320, dealers first inspect the #1 main bearing using inspection software and drive data, and replace the engine only if necessary.
Is the Tundra Hybrid included?
NHTSA's model lists for the three engine campaigns name the Tundra, Lexus LX and Lexus GX, not the Tundra Hybrid.
What are the symptoms of the V35A main bearing problem?
NHTSA describes main bearing failure that can cause an engine stall and loss of drive power. Owners commonly report a knock or rough running first. Stop driving and contact a dealer if it happens.
How many Tundras are affected by the engine recall?
The three campaigns total 272,349 vehicles: 102,092 (24V381), 126,691 (25V767) and 43,566 (26V320). Those totals include the Lexus LX and GX vehicles in each campaign.

The Toyota Truck Home Garage Tool List: What You Need for Every Job
To do your own oil, tire, brake and fluid work on a Toyota truck you need six things: a 3-ton floor jack, a pair of jack stands, a 1/2-inch click torque wrench that reaches at least 100 ft-lb (154 ft-lb for steel wheels on a 2024+ Tacoma or 2022+ Tundra), a metric socket set, an OBD2 scanner, and a drain pan. That kit costs roughly $300–400. Add a fluid pump for differential and transmission fills, a vacuum coolant filler, and a smoke machine for EVAP codes and you can handle almost every job on our maintenance schedules. Toyota's lug nut torque is 83 ft-lb on 2nd and 3rd gen Tacomas and 97 ft-lb on aluminum wheels for the 4th gen Tacoma, Tundra, Sequoia and Land Cruiser 250, per the owner's manuals.

Toyota Towing Capacity Chart: Every Truck and SUV (2026)
Tundra up to 12,000 lb (2022+ gas, 2WD Double Cab, no SR Package; 11,450 lb hybrid). Sequoia up to 9,520 lb (2023+). Tacoma up to 6,500 lb (2024+; 6,800 lb on a 2016 to 2023 2WD V6 Access Cab). 4Runner 6,000 lb (2025+; 5,000 lb for 2010 to 2024). Land Cruiser 250 6,000 lb (2025+, GCWR 12,725 to 12,945 lb). These are maximums: many configurations are rated lower, so use the door-jamb label for your truck.

Toyota Tundra Towing Capacity by Year and Cab (2007–2026)
2022+ Tundra (i-FORCE twin-turbo V6): up to 12,000 lb, but only on the Double Cab 2WD standard bed without the SR Package. Trucks with the SR Package are rated 8,300 lb. Most other gas trucks without it are rated 10,870 to 11,400 lb. i-FORCE MAX hybrid (2025 manual): 10,290 to 11,450 lb. 2014 to 2021 5.7L V8: 7,800 to 10,500 lb depending on cab, drive and tow package (the 2016 truck tops out at 10,500 lb), and 6,400 to 6,800 lb with the 4.6L V8. 2007 to 2013: up to 10,400 lb with the 5.7L, 4,500 to 4,900 lb with the 4.0L V6. Every Tundra manual sets the unbraked limit at 1,000 lb. Your exact rating follows your model code on the door-jamb label.
