Toyota Tacoma Recall Tracker: Every 3rd and 4th Gen Safety Recall (2016–2026)

The 4th gen Tacoma has had a busy first three years of recalls, and the newest, a shock reservoir corrosion problem with no final fix until 2027, is the one owners are asking about right now. This tracker lists every NHTSA safety recall on the 3rd gen (2016–2023) and 4th gen (2024+) Tacoma, with what the defect does, what dealers do, how many trucks are involved, and whether the fix is available.

How this list is built. We pulled every recall NHTSA lists for the Tacoma and Tacoma Hybrid for each model year from 2016 to 2026 on October 20, 2026. We left out recalls that only replace an incorrect load-capacity label from a dealer accessory installer; those are listed briefly at the end. "Units" is NHTSA's count for the whole campaign, which sometimes includes other Toyota and Lexus models.

25V058 25TA04 / 25TB04 2024–2025 Tacoma 4WD Rear brake hoses can be damaged when mud and dirt build up inside the rear wheels, causing a fluid leak Replace both rear brake hoses Letters mailed Aug 1, 2025 221,846

About the shock recall. NHTSA's report says the corrosion is at the metal flange where the external reservoir attaches, on both front and rear shocks. Until the final remedy is ready, inspect the reservoir mounts when you wash the truck, especially if you drive on salted roads, and contact a dealer if a reservoir is loose or leaking.

About the brake hose recall. It applies to 4WD trucks that pack mud inside the rear wheels. If you off-road in mud, rinse the wheel barrels and check the rear hoses after every trip, recall done or not.

The 3rd gen surge TSB. Not a recall, but worth knowing: Toyota technical service bulletin T-SB-0058-18 covers a 40–50 mph surge in 4th and 5th gear during torque converter lockup on 2016–2017 3.5L Tacomas, fixed with an engine computer reflash at the dealer. Our Tacoma troubleshooter covers the shift and surge symptoms.

Label-Only Recalls

Several campaigns only replace the load carrying capacity modification label on trucks fitted with dealer or distributor accessories (for example 22V310, 24V548, 26V179 and 26V571). They do not involve a mechanical repair, but the corrected label matters if you load the truck near its limit.

How to Check Your Tacoma

  1. Look up your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls or on Toyota's owners site. Open recalls show by VIN, including ones for used trucks.
  2. Ask the dealer to check at every service. Some recalls are phased, and letters can lag behind the dealer's system.
  3. Buying used? Run the VIN before you buy. An open recall is fixed free regardless of owner, but a truck with an unrepaired rear axle or brake hose recall should be fixed before it is driven hard.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is there a recall on the 2024 Tacoma shocks?

Yes. NHTSA campaign 26V514 (Toyota 26TA14/26TB14) covers 48,280 2024–2025 Tacomas and 2024 Tacoma Hybrids. The flange where the external reservoir attaches can corrode and the reservoir can detach. Interim letters went out September 30, 2026, and Toyota expects the final remedy in March 2027.

What is the 2025 Tacoma driveshaft recall?

NHTSA 25V656 (Toyota 25TA11/25TB11): the front driveshaft CV joint on 5,960 2025 Tacomas and Tacoma Hybrids can deform and break. Dealers inspect and replace both front driveshafts as needed.

Which Tacomas had the rear axle recall?

2022–2023 Tacomas under NHTSA 24V152 (Toyota 24TA05/24TB05), 381,199 trucks. Debris kept the axle shaft fasteners from being secured, and the axle shaft could separate. Dealers inspect and tighten or repair the rear axle.

Do 4th gen Tacomas have a brake recall?

Yes. NHTSA 25V058 replaces both rear brake hoses on 2024–2025 4WD Tacomas, because mud packed inside the rear wheels can damage the hoses and cause a leak.

Did the 3rd gen Tacoma have a fuel pump recall?

Yes. 2017–2020 Tacomas are included in Toyota's low-pressure fuel pump recalls, NHTSA 20V012 and its expansion 20V682. Dealers replace the fuel pump.

4th Gen Tacoma Maintenance Schedule: 5k to 150k Mile Checklist (2024+)

Every 5,000 miles or 6 months: rotate the tires, check fluids, brakes and wipers. Every 10,000 or 12 months: oil and filter (0W-20, 5.9 qt). Every 15,000: re-torque the propeller shaft bolts and run the under-truck inspection. Every 30,000: engine air filter and cabin air filter, plus a transmission fluid and transfer case inspection. Every 40,000: spark plugs. The 2.4L turbo's plug interval is 40,000 miles, not the 60,000 or 120,000 of the old V6. 100,000: first engine and intercooler coolant change, then every 50,000. The Toyota Truck Home Garage Tool List: What You Need for Every Job

To do your own oil, tire, brake and fluid work on a Toyota truck you need six things: a 3-ton floor jack, a pair of jack stands, a 1/2-inch click torque wrench that reaches at least 100 ft-lb (154 ft-lb for steel wheels on a 2024+ Tacoma or 2022+ Tundra), a metric socket set, an OBD2 scanner, and a drain pan. That kit costs roughly $300–400. Add a fluid pump for differential and transmission fills, a vacuum coolant filler, and a smoke machine for EVAP codes and you can handle almost every job on our maintenance schedules. Toyota's lug nut torque is 83 ft-lb on 2nd and 3rd gen Tacomas and 97 ft-lb on aluminum wheels for the 4th gen Tacoma, Tundra, Sequoia and Land Cruiser 250, per the owner's manuals.
