4th Gen Tacoma: Loss of power, limp mode or boost warning on the turbo 2.4L

Checks, in order

  1. Air filter and intake path
Inspect the air filter and intake tubing. A clogged filter or loose tube hurts power and can set codes.
    easy $ · under about $50
  2. Boost leaks
Look at the charge pipes, intercooler connections and clamps for oil film or loose joints. Oil spray at a joint often marks the leak.
    medium $ · under about $50
  3. Stored codes and freeze frame
Read engine codes and freeze-frame data. Note speed, load and temperature at the time of the fault.
    easy $ · under about $50
  4. Fuel quality and fueling
Low-quality or contaminated fuel can cause hesitation and reduced power. Use top tier fuel, and use the grade the owner's manual calls for.
    easy $ · under about $50
  5. Turbo actuator and sensors
A dealer can check the wastegate actuator, boost sensor and related parts. Ask about any applicable bulletins or software updates.
    hard $$$ · shop-level job, $500+

Applies to: 2024 and newer Tacoma with the 2.4L turbo i-FORCE (T24A-FTS) and the i-FORCE MAX hybrid, with the 8-speed automatic or the 6-speed manual. Platform is new, so checks lean on general practice and are labeled where they apply to only one powertrain.
