Toyota Grand Highlander TSB List and Known Issues

Toyota Grand Highlander TSB List and Known Issues

When something rattles, clicks or hesitates, the question owners ask the dealer is whether Toyota has acknowledged it. A technical service bulletin (TSB) is the answer: it is Toyota's repair procedure for a known condition, sent to dealers and filed with NHTSA. It is not a recall and it does not mean your truck is covered, but it gives you a number to cite. This page lists the Grand Highlander bulletins we could verify against the original PDFs.

How this list is built. We found bulletins through NHTSA's public TSB records and aggregator listings, then downloaded each original PDF from static.nhtsa.gov and read it. Only bulletins we read are listed here, with the exact wording of the condition. A bulletin that applies to your VIN is decided by Toyota, not by this page.

The Bulletins

BULLETIN DATE APPLIES TO CONDITION FIX
T-SB-0103-23 Rev1 Dec 20, 2023 (Rev1 Jan 10, 2024) 2024 Grand Highlander, T24A-FTS engine, built before listed VINs Check engine light with DTC P05CE00 (cold start camshaft position timing performance, bank 1) Reprogram the ECM. The manual says not to replace the ECM

T-TT-0741-23 Oct 24, 2023 2023 Highlander, 2024 Grand Highlander and Hybrid Engine does not restart automatically after a start/stop event, typically with DTC P154200 Dealer contacts Toyota's technical assistance (TAS)
T-TT-0742-23 Nov 9, 2023 2024 Grand Highlander and Hybrid Hard to add more than 12 to 15 gallons from empty, and the gauge reads full Dealer documents the fill and contacts TAS

Superseded. T-SB-0082-24 (September 25, 2024) described the same front drive shaft clicking. Toyota marked it obsolete on April 17, 2026 and replaced it with T-SB-0028-26. If your dealer cites the older number, ask for the current one. The original bulletin is still on file.

What Each One Means

T-SB-0103-23, check engine light P05CE00. Toyota says the condition affects some 2024 Grand Highlanders with the 2.4L turbo (T24A-FTS) engine, and that the engine control logic "has been modified to reduce the possibility" of it. It applies to trucks built before the production-change VINs in the bulletin (front-wheel drive 5TDAAAA5#RS009619, all-wheel drive 5TDAAAB5#RS034424). The repair is a software reprogram of the ECM, a 0.7 hour job under the Federal Emissions Warranty, 96 months or 80,000 miles.

T-SB-0017-24, Hybrid hesitation. Toyota says some 2024 Grand Highlander Hybrids with VDS ADAB5 may hesitate accelerating from 0 to 40 mph with steady throttle, and the engine control logic was modified to address it. The repair is an ECM reprogram (0.7 hour), covered by the same emissions warranty. This bulletin names the 2024 Hybrid only.

T-SB-0028-26, front drive shaft clicking. Some 2024 trucks may click from one or both front drive shafts when accelerating through a turn, with or without a grease leak. The bulletin lists the VINs it applies to by trim and drive. The repair replaces the shaft (1.7 hours for one side, 0.3 more for the opposite side) under the Powertrain Warranty, 60 months or 60,000 miles.

T-SB-0111-24, hood flutter. Some 2024 trucks may flutter or vibrate across the rear-center of the hood. The repair is filling the hood cavity with expanding foam (1.5 hours), covered by the Basic Warranty, 36 months or 36,000 miles.

The two tech tips. Tech tips carry an expiration date on the document (January 24, 2024 for T-TT-0741-23 and May 9, 2024 for T-TT-0742-23), so they may no longer be active, and they do not give a repair procedure. Both tell the dealer to open a case with Toyota's technical assistance before diagnosing. We list them because they show Toyota had seen each condition.

What Owners Report

The bulletins above cover 2024 trucks. Owners of newer trucks ask whether the same fixes apply to them. One 2025 Hybrid MAX owner posted on the ToyotaNation forum on November 14, 2025 that the truck surged in RPM, hesitated and shifted roughly, and that the service department said a 2024 bulletin could not be applied to the 2025 model. Other posters in the same thread described similar behavior. These are forum posts, not verified, and we could not find a Toyota bulletin for the 2025 or 2026 truck that matches. Related ToyotaNation threads discuss surging and hesitation on Highlander and Grand Highlander turbo trucks, and NHTSA complaints on the Grand Highlander include about 36 that mention hesitation, jerking or lurching (see the complaints guide).

What to Say at the Dealer

  1. Give the symptom and when it happens. For hesitation: speed range, throttle, temperature and whether a light came on.
  2. Cite the bulletin by number if it fits: T-SB-0017-24 for a 2024 Hybrid, T-SB-0103-23 for P05CE00 on a 2024 gas truck.
  3. Ask for a software check if the truck is newer than the bulletin. Ask the dealer to open a case with Toyota technical assistance and keep the case number.
  4. Ask for it in writing. A repair order that records the complaint protects you if the problem returns.
  5. Check recalls first. The recall list covers the 2026 axle carrier and steering knuckle campaigns.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the Toyota Grand Highlander have any technical service bulletins?

Yes. We verified six that name it, including a P05CE00 check engine light bulletin and a front drive shaft clicking bulletin.

Is there a TSB for Grand Highlander hesitation?

For the 2024 Hybrid, yes: T-SB-0017-24, an ECM reprogram for hesitation from 0 to 40 mph. We did not find one for other versions.

Is a TSB the same as a recall?

No. A recall is a safety campaign with a free fix. A TSB is a repair procedure for a known condition, and coverage depends on warranty and your VIN.

Do these bulletins apply to the 2025 or 2026 Grand Highlander?

Every bulletin we found names 2024 trucks. We found none that names the 2025 or 2026 model by number, so ask the dealer to check your VIN.

Toyota Grand Highlander Maintenance Schedule by Mileage

Toyota's schedule for the Grand Highlander is a service visit every 5,000 miles or 6 months, with the engine oil and filter changed every 10,000 miles or 12 months. Cabin and engine air filters are replaced at 30,000 miles, spark plugs at 40,000 miles on the 2.4L turbo (then 80,000 and 120,000), and engine coolant first at 100,000 miles or 120 months, then every 50,000 miles or 60 months. All-wheel-drive gas trucks also replace the rear differential and transfer case oil every 30,000 miles. Hybrids add an HV battery cooling intake filter check at each visit and a cleaning every 20,000 miles. Dirt and dust shorten the oil interval to 5,000 miles or 6 months.

Toyota Grand Highlander Problems: NHTSA Complaints

NHTSA holds 314 complaints on the Toyota Grand Highlander: 235 for the 2024 model year and 79 for 2025. The 2026 truck has none on file yet. The most-mentioned components are power train (67), engine (51) and fuel/propulsion system (47), after a large "other" bucket (80). About 35 complaint texts mention stalling, shutting off or losing power, and about 36 mention hesitation, jerking or lurching. Only 2 of the 314 mention the turbo, so the complaint data does not show a turbo failure pattern. Complaints are voluntary and unverified.
