Toyota Grand Highlander Maintenance Schedule by Mileage

Toyota Grand Highlander Maintenance Schedule by Mileage

The Grand Highlander's maintenance chart is spread across three pages of a 48-page booklet, with different footnotes for gas and hybrid trucks. This page puts it in one table, by mileage, from Toyota's own Warranty and Maintenance Guides.

Where these numbers come from. The maintenance charts in Toyota's 2025 and 2026 Grand Highlander and 2025 Grand Highlander Hybrid Warranty and Maintenance Guides (publication numbers T-MMS-25GrandHighlander, T-MMS-25GrandHighlanderHV and T-MMS-26GrandHighlander). The 2025 and 2026 gas charts are identical. We read the 2024 guide's oil and tire-rotation intervals, which match, but we did not compare its other items line by line. Your own guide governs, and a dealer may recommend more based on inspection.

Every Visit: 5,000 Miles or 6 Months

  • Rotate tires at every 5,000 miles.
  • Inspect all fluid levels, wiper blades and the brake linings and pads (a visual check each 5,000 miles, thickness and disc runout every 30,000).
  • Check the driver's floor mat installation.
  • Hybrids: visually check the HV battery cooling intake filter for dirt and dust, and clean it if needed. Toyota says to clean it every 20,000 miles.

Special Operating Conditions

Toyota says to do these extra items only if most of your driving is under the condition:

  • Dirt or dusty roads: change the oil and filter every 5,000 miles or 6 months, inspect the engine air filter at every visit, and inspect ball joints, drive shaft boots and steering linkage more often.
  • Towing, a car-top carrier or heavy loading: torque the chassis and body nuts and bolts at every visit, torque the propeller shaft bolts, replace the rear differential and transfer case oil (gas AWD), and replace the automatic transmission fluid at 60,000 miles. Extensive idling and low-speed driving, as in taxi or delivery use, also triggers the 60,000-mile transmission fluid replacement.
  • Road salt: the chart adds propeller shaft bolt torque.

Towing owners should read the towing guide for the ratings.

Oil Grade and Capacity

The gas and Hybrid MAX 2.4L turbo take SAE 0W-20 (5.6 qt with filter) and the 2.5L Hybrid takes SAE 0W-8 (4.5 qt with filter). Details are in the specs guide.

Toyota Grand Highlander Problems: NHTSA Complaints

NHTSA holds 314 complaints on the Toyota Grand Highlander: 235 for the 2024 model year and 79 for 2025. The 2026 truck has none on file yet. The most-mentioned components are power train (67), engine (51) and fuel/propulsion system (47), after a large "other" bucket (80). About 35 complaint texts mention stalling, shutting off or losing power, and about 36 mention hesitation, jerking or lurching. Only 2 of the 314 mention the turbo, so the complaint data does not show a turbo failure pattern. Complaints are voluntary and unverified.
