6th Gen 4Runner: Won't start or crank on the 2.4L turbo (non-hybrid)

Checks, in order

  1. Battery voltage
Resting voltage should be about 12.4 V or more. Below 12 V, charge and test the battery before chasing other causes.
    easy $ · under about $50
  2. Terminals
Check that the battery terminals are tight and clean. A loose clamp gives a click and no crank.
    easy $ · under about $50
  3. Fob and brake pedal
Press the brake hard and try the backup fob position in the manual. A weak fob battery is a very common no-start on smart-key trucks.
    easy $ · under about $50
  4. Look for stored codes
A basic OBD2 reader can show whether the computer logged a fault. Photograph any codes for the dealer.
    easy $ · under about $50
  5. Dealer diagnosis
A starter, fuel pump or immobilizer fault is a warranty repair on a truck this new.
    hard $$$ · shop-level job, $500+

Applies to: 6th generation 4Runner, 2025 and newer, with the 2.4L turbocharged i-FORCE and the i-FORCE MAX hybrid, both with the 8-speed automatic. This is a new platform with little long-term history, so most entries are general symptoms; when the truck is under warranty, the dealer is the right first stop.
