2nd Gen Sequoia: Brake booster pump buzzing, sinking pedal, ABS/VSC/BRAKE lights with C1252 or C1256

Safety: A sinking pedal is reduced braking on a 6,000 lb vehicle. Fix it before carrying passengers or towing.

Checks, in order

  1. Key-on test
Key on, engine off, the pump should run a few seconds and stop. Cycling every two or three pedal presses means it is losing pressure.

  2. Battery and wheel sensors
Charge and load test the battery; check each wheel speed sensor wire for chafe. Either lights the dash without a real brake fault.
    easy $ · under about $50
  3. Assembly replacement
The master cylinder and booster are serviced together. Owner-reported costs run $1,500–2,000 and up, less with a remanufactured unit, and the system needs a Techstream bleed and zero point calibration afterward.
    hard $$$ · shop-level job, $500+

Applies to: 2nd generation Sequoia, 2008 to 2022, with the 5.7L 3UR-FE V8 (most trucks) and the 4.6L 1UR-FE (2010–2012). It shares its engines, brakes and steering with the 2nd gen Tundra, so the engine items here match that truck. Rear air suspension items apply to the Platinum trim.
