"content_markdown": "> QUICK ANSWER\n>\n> **Both generations:** rotate tires every 5,000 miles, change 0W-20 oil and filter every **10,000 miles or 12 months**, replace the cabin and engine air filters every **30,000**, re-torque the propeller shaft bolts every 15,000, and replace engine coolant at **100,000** then every 50,000. **2nd gen 5.7L V8 (2007–2021):** spark plugs at **120,000**. **3rd gen i-FORCE (2022+):** spark plugs every **40,000** miles, plus the **intercooler coolant** at 100,000 and a brake booster vacuum pump inspection at 120,000. Tow or drive dirt roads? Oil every 5,000, transfer case oil every 30,000, ATF at 60,000 and 120,000. From Toyota's 2013, 2020 and 2024 Tundra maintenance guides.\n\nThe Tundra's schedule looks a lot like other modern Toyotas until you get to the 2022+ truck, where the twin-turbo V6 changes three things: spark plugs move from a 120,000-mile item to a 40,000-mile item, there is a second coolant system to service, and the brake booster vacuum pump gets its own check. And on both generations, the services that actually protect a truck that tows are hidden in Toyota's \"special operating conditions\" boxes. This checklist pulls everything out of Toyota's own guides and lines it up by mileage.\n\n**Where this comes from.** The 2nd gen schedule is from Toyota's *2020 Tundra Warranty and Maintenance Guide* (5.7L V8), cross-checked against the *2013* guide. The 3rd gen schedule is from the *2024 Tundra Warranty and Maintenance Guide*. Toyota prints one per model year; your year's official log is on Toyota's owners site. Fluid specs are in our [Tundra fluid capacities guide](/guides/toyota-tundra-fluid-capacities-and-types-2014-2025/).\n\n## The Schedule at a Glance\n\nEvery visit (every 5,000 miles or 6 months) includes a tire rotation, a fluid level check, wiper inspection, a floor mat check and a visual brake check.\n\n| MILES / MONTHS | 2nd GEN 5.7L V8 | 3rd GEN i-FORCE (2022+) |\n| --- | --- | --- |\n| 10k / 12 mo | Oil and filter | Oil and filter |\n| 15k / 18 mo | Re-torque propeller shaft bolts; full under-truck inspection | Same |\n| 20k / 24 mo | Oil and filter | Oil and filter |\n| 30k / 36 mo | Oil and filter, **engine and cabin air filters**, propeller shaft re-torque; full inspection plus brakes, fuel system, transfer case | Same |\n| 40k / 48 mo | Oil and filter | Oil and filter, **spark plugs** |\n| 45k / 54 mo | Propeller shaft re-torque; full inspection | Same |\n| 50k / 60 mo | Oil and filter | Oil and filter |\n| 60k / 72 mo | Same as 30k, plus first drive belt inspection | Same as 30k, plus first drive belt inspection |\n| 70k / 84 mo | Oil and filter | Oil and filter |\n| 75k / 90 mo | Propeller shaft re-torque; full inspection plus drive belts | Same |\n| 80k / 96 mo | Oil and filter | Oil and filter, **spark plugs** |\n| 90k / 108 mo | Same as 30k, plus drive belts | Same as 30k, plus drive belts |\n| 100k / 120 mo | Oil and filter, **engine coolant (first change)** | Oil and filter, **engine coolant and intercooler coolant (first change)** |\n| 105k / 126 mo | Propeller shaft re-torque; full inspection plus drive belts | Same |\n| 110k / 132 mo | Oil and filter | Oil and filter |\n| 120k / 144 mo | Same as 30k, plus **spark plugs** and drive belts | Same as 30k, plus **spark plugs**, drive belts, and **inspect the brake booster vacuum pump** |\n\nCoolant (and, on the 3rd gen, intercooler coolant) is replaced first at 100,000 miles or 120 months, then every 50,000 miles or 60 months. Drive belts are inspected from 60,000, then every 15,000.\n\n**Propeller shaft:** the 2020 and 2024 guides list re-torquing the propeller shaft bolts every 15,000 miles. The 2013 guide also lists greasing the propeller shaft spiders and slip yokes with lithium-base chassis grease, and the double cardan joint with molybdenum grease. If your truck's driveshaft has grease fittings, grease them when you re-torque.\n\n## Oil: 10,000 Miles, With Conditions\n\nThe 2013 and 2020 guides state the Tundra is certified for 0W-20, with a **10,000-mile or 12-month** interval **if 0W-20 is used**. If 5W-20 was used because 0W-20 was not available, change it at 5,000 miles and go back to 0W-20. The 2024 guide says the same thing in different words, and all three say: if most of your driving is under a special operating condition, change oil and filter every **5,000 miles or 6 months, regardless of the oil**.\n\n## The Full Under-Truck Inspection\n\nAt the 15k-type visits (15k, 45k, 75k, 105k): ball joints and dust covers, brake lines and hoses, cabin air filter, CV boots (4WD), engine coolant, exhaust pipes and mountings, front (4WD) and rear diff oil, radiator and condenser, steering gear, and steering linkage and boots. The 3rd gen adds the **intercooler coolant**.\n\nAt the 30k-type visits (30k, 60k, 90k, 120k), the cabin filter is replaced instead of inspected, and the list adds automatic transmission fluid cooler hoses, the transmission (checked for leaks), brake pad and rotor thickness and runout, the fuel lines, fuel tank band and vapor hoses, the fuel cap gasket, and transfer case oil (4WD).\n\n## Special Operating Conditions\n\nToyota says to do these **only if most of your driving** is under the condition. A truck that tows a camper all summer, or lives on a gravel road, qualifies.\n\n| CONDITION | 5k / 10k-TYPE VISITS | 15k, 45k, 75k, 105k | 30k AND 90k | 60k AND 120k |\n| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |\n| **Dirt or dusty roads** | Oil every 5k; inspect ball joints, CV boots, engine air filter, steering linkage; re-torque propeller shaft; tighten chassis and body nuts and bolts | Inspect engine air filter; oil; tighten nuts and bolts | Replace transfer case oil (4WD); tighten nuts and bolts | Replace transfer case oil (4WD); tighten nuts and bolts |\n| **Towing, roof carrier or heavy loads** | Re-torque propeller shaft; tighten nuts and bolts; oil every 5k | Replace **front** diff oil (4WD); tighten nuts and bolts | Replace front and rear diff oil and transfer case oil | Replace **automatic transmission fluid**, front and rear diff oil, transfer case oil |\n| **Trips under 5 miles below 32°F** (2nd gen guide) | Oil every 5k | Oil | | |\n| **Long idling or low-speed driving** (2nd gen guide) | Oil every 5k | Oil | | |\n\nNotes on the table: Toyota's 15k-type towing service changes only the front diff; the rear diff is changed at the 30k-type visits. The 2024 log does not print \"oil every 5k\" under towing, but its explanation section says any special operating condition means oil every 5,000 regardless. The propeller shaft items include driving on **salted roads**.\n\n**For a Tundra that tows regularly**, Toyota's own schedule adds up to: oil every 5,000; front diff every 15,000; rear diff and transfer case every 30,000; ATF at 60,000 and 120,000.\n\n## Parts and Tools for Tundra Service\n\n*Links below are Amazon affiliate links: as an Amazon Associate, toyotadata earns from qualifying purchases, at no extra cost to you.* Filters and plugs differ between the V8 and the twin-turbo V6, so those are search links; confirm fitment for your truck.\n\n| ITEM | USED FOR | BUY |\n| --- | --- | --- |\n| Genuine Toyota 0W-20 motor oil, 4 qt | Oil changes (two jugs plus one more for the 8.5 qt V8) | [Shop on Amazon](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00P8873HW?tag=1434042-20) |\n| Oil filter, 2nd gen Tundra 5.7L | V8 oil changes | [Shop on Amazon](https://www.amazon.com/s?k=Toyota+Tundra+5.7+oil+filter+genuine&tag=1434042-20) |\n| Oil filter, 2022+ Tundra 3.4L twin-turbo | i-FORCE oil changes | [Shop on Amazon](https://www.amazon.com/s?k=2022+Toyota+Tundra+3.4+twin+turbo+oil+filter&tag=1434042-20) |\n| Engine air filter, Tundra | The 30k engine air filter change | [Shop on Amazon](https://www.amazon.com/s?k=Toyota+Tundra+engine+air+filter&tag=1434042-20) |\n| Cabin air filter, Tundra | The 30k cabin filter change | [Shop on Amazon](https://www.amazon.com/s?k=Toyota+Tundra+cabin+air+filter&tag=1434042-20) |\n| DENSO iridium spark plugs (SK20HR11 for the V8; EC22HPR-D7 for 2022+) | 120k (V8) or every 40k (i-FORCE) | [Shop on Amazon](https://www.amazon.com/s?k=Denso+SK20HR11&tag=1434042-20) |\n| Toyota Super Long Life Coolant, 50/50 premix | Engine and intercooler coolant | [Shop on Amazon](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0071N5DM4?tag=1434042-20) |\n| Genuine Toyota ATF WS, 1 qt | Transmission service on the towing schedule | [Shop on Amazon](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B007WMF0Q8?tag=1434042-20) |\n| Fluid pump for quart bottles | Diffs and transfer case | [Shop on Amazon](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0D5HRX6LG?tag=1434042-20) |\n| 1/2\" drive click torque wrench, 10-150 ft-lb | Propeller shaft bolts and 97 ft-lb lug nuts | [Shop on Amazon](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07MP1Q3W8?tag=1434042-20) |\n| 3/8\" drive click torque wrench, 10-80 ft-lb | Spark plugs | [Shop on Amazon](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07M68G49R?tag=1434042-20) |\n| 15 qt oil drain pan | V8 oil changes | [Shop on Amazon](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0BZQMMGDZ?tag=1434042-20) |\n| 3-ton jack stands (pair) | Supporting the truck for under-truck work | [Shop on Amazon](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000CO86BY?tag=1434042-20) |\n\n## Frequently Asked Questions\n\n### How often should I change the oil in a Tundra?\n\nEvery 10,000 miles or 12 months with 0W-20, per Toyota's 2013, 2020 and 2024 maintenance guides.
