"content_markdown": "> QUICK ANSWER\n>\n> **Every 5,000 miles or 6 months:** rotate the tires, check fluids, brakes and wipers. **Every 10,000 or 12 months:** oil and filter (0W-20, 5.9 qt). **Every 15,000:** re-torque the propeller shaft bolts and run the under-truck inspection. **Every 30,000:** engine air filter and cabin air filter, plus a transmission fluid and transfer case inspection. **Every 40,000: spark plugs.** The 2.4L turbo's plug interval is 40,000 miles, not the 60,000 or 120,000 of the old V6. **100,000:** first engine and intercooler coolant change, then every 50,000. Dirt roads and towing move the oil to 5,000 miles and add differential and transfer case oil changes every 15,000 to 30,000. Compiled from Toyota's 2025 Tacoma Warranty and Maintenance Guide.\n\nThe 4th gen Tacoma is the first Tacoma with a turbocharger, an intercooler and an 8-speed automatic, and Toyota's maintenance schedule changed with it. The headline is the spark plug interval: **40,000 miles**, less than half of what the 3.5L V6 asked for. The rest is familiar Tacoma: inspections every 5,000, oil every 10,000, a long under-truck list every 15,000, and a separate column of extra work for trucks that live on dirt or tow. This checklist pulls every interval out of Toyota's guide and lays it out by mileage.\n\n**Where this comes from.** Every interval is from Toyota's *2025 Tacoma Warranty and Maintenance Guide* (publication T-MMS-25Tacoma), scheduled maintenance charts for 5,000 through 150,000 miles. Capacities are from the 2025 owner's manual. Toyota prints one chart that covers the gas i-FORCE truck in both transmissions; the i-FORCE MAX hybrid has its own guide, and where its items differ (inverter coolant, for example) we say so. \"Inspect\" means look and correct if needed; \"replace\" means it is changed at that visit regardless of condition.\n\n## The Service Timeline\n\n<figure class=\"chart\" style=\"margin:24px 0\">\n<svg viewBox=\"0 0 760 250\" role=\"img\" aria-labelledby=\"tl-title\" style=\"width:100%;height:auto;font-family:var(--sans,system-ui);font-size:12px\">\n<title id=\"tl-title\">4th gen Tacoma service timeline from 10,000 to 100,000 miles</title>\n<defs><marker id=\"dot\" viewBox=\"0 0 10 10\" refX=\"5\" refY=\"5\" markerWidth=\"6\" markerHeight=\"6\"><circle cx=\"5\" cy=\"5\" r=\"4\" fill=\"currentColor\"/></marker></defs>\n<g stroke=\"var(--line,#ccc)\" stroke-width=\"1\"><line x1=\"40\" y1=\"200\" x2=\"740\" y2=\"200\"/></g>\n<g fill=\"var(--ink-2,#555)\" text-anchor=\"middle\">\n<text x=\"40\" y=\"222\">0</text><text x=\"110\" y=\"222\">10k</text><text x=\"180\" y=\"222\">20k</text><text x=\"250\" y=\"222\">30k</text><text x=\"320\" y=\"222\">40k</text><text x=\"390\" y=\"222\">50k</text><text x=\"460\" y=\"222\">60k</text><text x=\"530\" y=\"222\">70k</text><text x=\"600\" y=\"222\">80k</text><text x=\"670\" y=\"222\">90k</text><text x=\"740\" y=\"222\">100k</text>\n<text x=\"390\" y=\"244\" font-size=\"11\">Miles, normal use. Every 5,000-mile visit also includes the tire rotation, fluid level check, brake look, wiper check and the driver's floor mat check that Toyota lists at every interval.\n\n| MILES / MONTHS | REPLACE OR SERVICE | MAJOR INSPECTIONS |\n| --- | --- | --- |\n| 5k / 6 mo | Rotate tires | Fluids, brakes, wipers |\n| 10k / 12 mo | **Oil and filter** | |\n| 15k / 18 mo | Torque propeller shaft bolts (4WD) | Under-truck list (below) |\n| 20k / 24 mo | Oil and filter | |\n| 30k / 36 mo | Oil and filter, **engine air filter, cabin air filter**, propeller shaft bolts | Under-truck list plus transmission fluid, ATF cooler hoses, transfer case oil, fuel lines and tank, fuel cap gasket, brake thickness and disc runout |\n| 40k / 48 mo | Oil and filter, **spark plugs** | |\n| 45k / 54 mo | Propeller shaft bolts | Under-truck list |\n| 50k / 60 mo | Oil and filter | |\n| 60k / 72 mo | Oil and filter, engine and cabin air filters, propeller shaft bolts | Under-truck list plus transmission, transfer case, fuel system, brake runout, **drive belts (first check)** |\n| 70k / 84 mo | Oil and filter | |\n| 75k / 90 mo | Propeller shaft bolts | Under-truck list, drive belts |\n| 80k / 96 mo | Oil and filter, **spark plugs** | |\n| 90k / 108 mo | Oil and filter, engine and cabin air filters, propeller shaft bolts | Under-truck list plus transmission, transfer case, fuel system, brake runout, drive belts |\n| 100k / 120 mo | Oil and filter, **engine and intercooler coolant (first change)** | |\n| 105k / 126 mo | Propeller shaft bolts | Under-truck list, drive belts |\n| 120k / 144 mo | Oil and filter, engine and cabin air filters, **spark plugs**, propeller shaft bolts | Under-truck list plus transmission, transfer case, fuel system, brake runout, drive belts |\n| 150k / 180 mo | Oil and filter, engine and cabin air filters, coolant (every 50,000 after the first) | Under-truck list plus transmission, transfer case, fuel system |\n\n**How the pattern works.** Oil is every 10,000. Both air filters are every 30,000 (Toyota lists them together on the 4th gen, unlike the 3rd gen's 20,000-mile cabin filter). Spark plugs are every 40,000. The propeller shaft bolts are torqued every 15,000 on 4WD trucks. Coolant is first changed at 100,000 miles or 120 months, then every 50,000 miles or 60 months. Drive belts are inspected from 60,000 on, every 15,000.\n\n## Why the Spark Plugs Are Every 40,000 Miles\n\nThe 2.4L T24A-FTS is a direct-injected turbo engine running higher cylinder pressures than the old V6, and Toyota specifies **NGK DILZKAR8E7H iridium plugs gapped at 0.027 in (0.7 mm)** with a 40,000-mile replacement interval. The manual says not to adjust the gap and to use only iridium plugs. The guide also notes that spark plug service is a condition of the emissions warranty, so keep the receipt. Four plugs on an inline four are an easy driveway job compared with the rear bank of a V6.\n\n## The Oil Change Interval: 10,000 or 5,000?\n\n- **Normal driving:** oil and filter every **10,000 miles or 12 months**, whichever comes first, even if the maintenance reminder has not appeared.\n- **Mostly dirt or dusty roads, or repeated trips under five miles in freezing weather:** every **5,000 miles or 6 months**.\n- **Towing, car-top carrier or heavy loads, or extended idling:** the special-conditions chart puts oil at 5,000 as well.\n\nCapacity is **5.9 qt (5.6 L) with the filter**, 5.6 qt without, SAE 0W-20 meeting ILSAC GF-6A. If 0W-20 is not available, 5W-20 may be used once but must be replaced with 0W-20 at the next change. Check the level about 8 minutes after shutting off a warm engine. Full specs are in our [4th gen Tacoma fluid capacities guide](/guides/4th-gen-tacoma-fluid-capacities-and-types/).\n\n## The Under-Truck Inspection List\n\nAt 15k, 30k, 45k, 60k, 75k, 90k, 105k, 120k, 135k and 150k, Toyota's chart adds these inspections:\n\n- Ball joints and dust covers\n- Brake lines and hoses\n- Drive shaft (CV) boots, 4WD\n- Exhaust pipes and mountings\n- Front differential oil (4WD) and rear differential oil\n- Radiator, condenser and intercooler\n- Steering gear, steering linkage and boots\n- Propeller shaft bolts: torque\n\nEvery 30,000 miles the list grows: automatic transmission fluid and the ATF cooler hoses, manual transmission oil (if equipped), transfer case oil, fuel lines and connections, fuel tank band and vapor hoses, fuel tank cap gasket, and brake pad thickness plus disc runout. From 60,000 miles the drive belts are added.\n\nTwo 4th gen specifics: the **front driveshaft CV joint** is the subject of recall 25V656 on some 2025 trucks, and the **rear brake hoses** on 2024–2025 4WD trucks are covered by recall 25V058 for mud damage. Both are on the inspection list above, so look at them yourself even if the recall work has been done. Details are in our [Tacoma recall tracker](/guides/toyota-tacoma-recall-tracker-2016-2026/).\n\n## Special Operating Conditions: The Dirt and Towing Column\n\nToyota's second chart applies when **most** of your driving is on dirt or dusty roads, towing, with a roof carrier or heavy loads, with extended idling, or on salted roads. Owners who do this occasionally do not need it.\n\n| ITEM | INTERVAL | TRIGGER |\n| --- | --- | --- |\n| Engine oil and filter | Every 5,000 mi / 6 mo | Dirt or dust; short cold trips; towing or heavy loads |\n| Engine air filter | Inspect every 5,000 mi | Dirt or dust |\n| Ball joints, dust covers, drive shaft boots, steering linkage and boots | Inspect every 5,000 mi | Dirt or dust |\n| Nuts and bolts on chassis and body | Torque every 5,000 mi | Dirt or dust; towing |\n| Propeller shaft bolts | Torque every 5,000 mi | Dirt or dust; towing; salted roads |\n| Front and rear differential oil | **Replace every 15,000 mi** | Towing or heavy loads |\n| Transfer case oil | **Replace every 30,000 mi** | Dirt or dust; towing |\n| Manual transmission oil | Replace every 30,000 mi | Towing |\n| Automatic transmission fluid | **Replace at 60,000 mi** | Extensive idling or low-speed driving (police, taxi, delivery use) |\n| Clutch fork (manual, 4WD) | Lubricate every 5,000 mi, and within 24 hours of submerging | Dirt or dust |\n\nThe transmission note is the one most owners miss: Toyota lists an ATF **replacement** only under the extended-idling condition. Everyone else is on inspection at 30,000-mile intervals. Towing owners who want to change it anyway can, with Toyota WS and the fill-and-check procedure; capacities are in the fluids guide.\n\n**Off-road daily checks.** Toyota's guide also has a short list to run every day you drive through deep sand, mud or water: ball joints and boots, brake lines and pads, differential and transfer case oil, drive shaft boots, engine air filter, chassis bolts, steering linkage, transmission fluid, and the propeller shaft torque.\n\n## Hybrid (i-FORCE MAX) Differences\n\nThe i-FORCE MAX uses the same 2.4L turbo with an electric motor in the transmission bell housing and a nickel-metal hydride battery under the rear seat. Toyota's guide for the gas truck references an \"inverter coolant\" level check under the all-fluids item for hybrids, and the hybrid's own guide carries the inverter coolant replacement interval. If you own the hybrid, use Toyota's hybrid guide for the coolant item and treat everything else above as the same. Our [i-FORCE MAX explainer](/guides/iforce-max-hybrid-explained-4th-gen-tacoma-battle-born/) covers how the system works.\n\n*Links below are affiliate links: toyotadata earns a commission from VEVOR and, as an Amazon Associate, from qualifying Amazon purchases, at no extra cost to you.* Confirm fitment for your exact truck before you order.\n\n| ITEM | USED FOR | BUY |\n| --- | --- | --- |\n| Genuine Toyota 0W-20 motor oil, 4 qt | The 10,000-mile oil change (5.9 qt, so two jugs) | [Shop on Amazon](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00P8873HW?tag=1434042-20) |\n| NGK DILZKAR8E7H iridium spark plugs | The 40,000-mile plug change; Toyota's specified plug | [Shop on Amazon](https://www.amazon.com/s?k=NGK+DILZKAR8E7H&tag=1434042-20) |\n| Genuine Toyota ATF WS, 1 qt | Transmission fluid service | [Shop on Amazon](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B007WMF0Q8?tag=1434042-20) |\n| Toyota LT 75W-85 GL-5 gear oil (08885-02506) | Front and rear differentials | [Shop on Amazon](https://www.amazon.com/s?k=Toyota+08885-02506+75W-85&tag=1434042-20) |\n| Toyota Transfer Gear Oil LF 75W (08885-81080) | Transfer case, 4WD | [Shop on Amazon](https://www.amazon.com/s?k=Toyota+08885-81080+transfer+gear+oil+LF&tag=1434042-20) |\n| 1/2\" click torque wrench, 20–250 ft-lb | Propeller shaft bolts, drain plugs and the 154 ft-lb steel-wheel lug spec | [Shop at VEVOR](https://www.vevor.com/torque-wrench-c_12075/vevor-torque-wrench-1-2-inch-drive-click-torque-wrench-20-250ft-lb-34-340n-m-dual-direction-adjustable-torque-wrench-set-mechanical-dual-range-scales-torque-wrench-kit-with-adapters-extension-rod-p_010499304062?lang=en&currency=usd&utm_source=inhouse&utm_medium=affiliate&utm_campaign=51756546&shortkey=20261021y5oi) |\n| ATF fill pump with transmission adapters, 8 L | Pumping fluid into the diffs, transfer case and transmission fill plugs | [Shop at VEVOR](https://www.vevor.com/fluid-evacuator-c_10350/vevor-transmission-fluid-pump-8-l-pneumatic-oil-fluid-extractor-atf-refill-dispenser-transfer-pump-with-15-atf-adapters-oil-extractor-dispenser-with-hdpe-tank-for-cars-boats-lawn-mowers-p_010557453475?lang=en&currency=usd&utm_source=inhouse&utm_medium=affiliate&utm_campaign=51756546&shortkey=20261021y6Hd) |\n| Vacuum coolant refill kit | The 100,000-mile coolant change without air pockets | [Shop at VEVOR](https://www.vevor.com/compression-test-kits-c_12242/vevor-radiator-vacuum-refill-kit-automotives-cooling-system-vacuum-purge-fill-tool-with-gauge-portable-radiator-coolant-filling-kit-with-toolbox-universal-fit-for-most-cars-vans-suvs-and-trucks-p_010890879091?lang=en&currency=usd&utm_source=inhouse&utm_medium=affiliate&utm_campaign=51756546&shortkey=20261021y5f9) |\n\n## Frequently Asked Questions\n\n### How often does a 2024 Tacoma need an oil change?\n\nEvery 10,000 miles or 12 months on 0W-20 under normal driving, per Toyota's maintenance guide. Every 5,000 miles or 6 months if most of your driving is on dirt or dusty roads, short trips in freezing weather, or towing.\n\n### When do the spark plugs get changed on a 4th gen Tacoma?\n\nEvery 40,000 miles. Toyota specifies NGK DILZKAR8E7H iridium plugs at a 0.027 in gap. That is a shorter interval than the 3rd gen V6's 60,000 miles.\n\n### What is the 30,000-mile service on a 2024 Tacoma?\n\nOil and filter, engine air filter, cabin air filter, propeller shaft bolt torque, and inspections of the transmission fluid, transfer case oil, fuel system, brakes (thickness and runout) and the full under-truck list.\n\n### When does the 4th gen Tacoma need a coolant change?\n\nFirst at 100,000 miles or 120 months, then every 50,000 miles or 60 months. The engine and intercooler share the schedule. Use Toyota Super Long Life Coolant or an equivalent.\n\n### Does Toyota require transmission fluid changes on the 2024 Tacoma?\n\nNot under normal driving. The chart calls for inspection every 30,000 miles and a replacement at 60,000 only for trucks that idle extensively or run long distances at low speed, such as fleet or delivery use.\n\n## Related Tacoma Guides\n\n- [4th Gen Tacoma Fluid Capacities and Types](/guides/4th-gen-tacoma-fluid-capacities-and-types/)\n- [3rd Gen Tacoma Maintenance Schedule](/guides/3rd-gen-tacoma-maintenance-schedule-checklist/)\n- [Tacoma Recall Tracker (2016–2026)](/guides/toyota-tacoma-recall-tracker-2016-2026/)\n- [4th Gen Tacoma MPG and Range](/guides/4th-gen-tacoma-mpg-fuel-economy-range/)\n- [The Toyota Truck Home Garage Tool List](/guides/toyota-truck-home-garage-tool-list/)\n\nSources: Toyota 2025 Tacoma Warranty and Maintenance Guide ([T-MMS-25Tacoma](https://assets.sipb.toyota.com/publications/en/omms-s/T-MMS-25Tacoma/pdf/T-MMS-25Tacoma.pdf)), maintenance charts and footnotes; Toyota 2025 Tacoma Owner's Manual ([OM04011U](https://assets.sipb.toyota.com/publications/en/om-s/OM04011U/pdf/OM04011U.pdf)), Specifications; NHTSA recalls 25V656 and 25V058."
